IT’S A BIG FRIDAY AT MADISON

2022-07-25

The Big 8 Late Models return to Madison this Friday night battling it out on Wisconsin’s Fastest Half-Mile for 48 laps of exciting racing action. Competitors are expected from at least four states. The Mid American Stock Car Series and the Upper Midwest Vintage Series will also be part of the racing program competing on the half-mile while the HSRA (High School Racing Association) will be on the Ring of Fire.

It will also be Racers’ Reunion Night with former drivers at MIS, Impact, and Capital Speedway being recognized before the races. Former drivers should RSVP to gm@misracing.com to receive free admission.

The Big 8 Late Models are no strangers to Madison as this will be their 22nd appearance dating back to 2005 when Tim Sauter took home the checkered flag. Casey Johnson was the winner in last year’s race. This year you’ll see the Big 8 regulars along with some of the weekly stars from Madison and other local tracks. The series last raced on July 22nd at State Park Speedway in Wausau with Johnson getting the win.

Fourteen different drivers have won Big 8 events at Madison led by Jeremy Miller who has won four races (2017, 2016, 2008, 2006) while Dale Nottestad has three wins (2019, 2013, and 2010) and Zack Riddle (2012, 2011) has a pair of victories as does Ross Kenseth winning both races in 2009.. Michael Bilderback (2018), Austin Nason (2015), Jon Reynolds Jr. (2014), Steve Rubeck (2011), John Baumeister Jr. (2010), Ryan Carlson (2008), Brian Hoppe (2007), Brady Liddle (2007) also have wins. Two races were run at Madison from 2007-2011.

Will we have a repeat winner this year or will we see a new winner in 2022?

The Mid Am Racing Series has competed at Madison for more than twenty years. The Mid Am cars are coming off their last event which was on the dirt at Sycamore Speedway in Illinois and earlier this year competed at the Milwaukee Mile demonstrating the flexibility of these cars to compete on all types of tracks.

A variety of great looking cars will be here to race with the Upper Midwest Vintage Series. Many of these vehicles are tribute cars that veteran fans should have no trouble identifying.

The HSRA will be making their third appearance of the season as they compete for state-wide points. So far this year Blaise Watters, Elliott Hawkins, and Mitchell Berg have gone home with checkered flags.

Pit gates open at 3:30 with practice at 5:00, qualifying at 6:15, and racing at 7:30. Adult admission is $18.00 with Seniors / Whelen Heroes $15.00, Students 12-17 $10.00, Kids 6-11 $5.00, and 5 and under free. A Family ticket is just $40.00.
